What does growing greatness mean to you?
We asked our Junior ExecJoe to tell us what Growing Greatness means to them as future leaders in our industry.
Sonia Dearling, Mid-weight Brand Designer, Shift Joe Public
"Being a leader is a privilege, but also a daunting responsibility. I am of the opinion that actions are the most powerful means of changing behaviour and inspiring others to live for more than just themselves. This means that as a young leader, every action has an impact, and it is your responsibility to make sure that it is a positive one. Sometimes this isn’t easy as a generation can come with a set outlook and behavioural patterns that are easy to fall back onto. I find myself constantly having to step out of my comfort zone, distancing myself from the way I’ve been conditioned to see things."
Leago Sehere, Mid-weight Copywriter, Joe Public
"I believe in hard work because I’ve seen the wonders it can do, both in my life and in the lives of those around me. Although I wish for a magical solution, I can’t download the latest version of ‘Leago’s Growth, preloaded with tips, tricks and shortcuts’. So, until that’s available at a store near me, I choose to put in the hard work required for me to grow. I choose to leverage off Joe’s commitment to growing greatness by taking ownership of my personal growth. If I don’t, I can only blame myself."
Katlego Ditlhokwe, Channel Strategist, Joe Public
"Growing greatness is about progression and the constant pursuit to do better than your previous achievement. Thus, greatness is NOT a destination, but a benchmark. The aim is to constantly break the benchmark and set a new one. For instance, I am often baffled at how we as adults can remain in the same positions year on year within our professions, but as pupils the aim was always to advance to the next grade. That’s what growing greatness is about, progression."
Francois van Deventer, Account Director, Joe Public
"The term Growth can be used in many contexts but the essential foundation for it would have to come from a personal drive. If the ‘want or need’ for growth doesn’t come from within then there will only be stagnation in every other aspect of life. Growing greatness is a personal ambition which can be supported by a company or people, but must be achieved by an individual. The only way for current leaders to assist in growing greatness is to live consciously themselves and empower the youth to achieve their own potential at all times."
Mandisa Ngubane, Account Director, Joe Public
"To me, growing greatness means recognising that there is always space, an appetite and an appreciation for great work. It means recognising talent and creativity in any area, and nurturing it. It means never resting on our laurels, but being on a continuous mission to do greater each time. It means never losing our hunger to stretch the imagination and impress with our thinking to achieve tangible results. It is demonstrating an understanding that greatness is a collective effort and that we must all work together to plant the seed, water it, prune it and harvest it."
