Joe Public To Join The One Club Board

Joe Public’s Executive Creative Director, Xolisa Dyeshana, has been invited to join The One Club Board of Directors. One of the world’s leading non-profit organisations, The One Club is dedicated to elevating creative work across the industry.

The One Club is dedicated to elevating creative work across the industry. Among the club’s many initiatives is the world-renowned One Show, a creative award show respected around the globe for its celebration of exceptional ideas and craft.

Xolisa will sit alongside some of the world’s leading creative luminaries, the likes of which include José Mollá, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of The Community and Iain Tait, Executive Creative Director, W+K London, to name just two industry heavy-weights on this year’s board.

Xolisa was instrumental in bringing The One Show Diversity Programme to South Africa (Johannesburg and Cape Town) in July 2016. The advertising industry still struggles to be wholly representative of our country and the programme aims to reach more black students and expose them to international creative talent as well as a broader understanding of how agencies work.

The format for the boot camp is identical to that of the industry. Students receive a brief on the first day that will be unpacked and tackled over four days. Teams will have a mentor and each day will be rounded off with a presentation from an executive creative director from the industry. At the end of boot camp, the teams will present their ideas to a panel, which will then be followed by an award ceremony.

Last year’s programme saw 140 students in attendance who spent time with several of South Africa’s leading creative directors as well as meeting Kevin Swanepoel, CEO of The One Show, and two international guests and facilitators, Brandon Rochon of Kastner & Partners and Perry Fair of J Walter Thompson Atlanta.

Many South African advertising and communication stakeholders believe skills development needs to be fast-tracked. “Industry boot camps, such as the one hosted by The One Show, demonstrate a collaborative effort from the marketing and advertising industry. However, for the recently gazetted Marketing and Communications (MAC) Charter to be effective, meaningful and sustainable for black talent, agencies have to adopt the true spirit of transformation in order to succeed,” adds Lebo Masilela, Joe Public United, Human Resources Director.

As a board member, Xolisa will attend The One Club board meeting and The One Show Creative Week beginning on 8 May 2017 in New York City.

Recently The One Club and Art Directors Club (ADC), two of the most respected non-profit organisations serving the creative communications and design industries, have agreed to merge – now forming The One Club for Creativity, a leading global creative organisation. The new entity will serve as the umbrella organisation for The One Show, ADC Annual Awards, Young Guns and their respective Halls of Fame, education and diversity programmes.
